It’s spring!

Small Bites of Fun From Emily~

Leaf Printing:

Gather some eye-catching leaves on your next trip outdoors, whether it’s to walk the dog or hike a mountain.  Leaf printing is a craft technique that transfers leaves’ natural color to fabric or paper.

Arrange the leaves over the fabric or paper in the desired pattern. Place a sheet of tracing paper over the leaves, then hammer the entire surface to release the natural dyes in the leaves.

Enjoy this technique on your greeting cards and fabric.  Also, don’t forget to press those pretty flowers that will start coming out soon!

Travel with Intention

EMILY’S BITES OF FUN:

Winter is travel time and traveling, especially when it involves exploring new regions or corners of the world, is a rich source of inspiration for many craftspeople.  The next time you are planning a trip, purchase several clear plastic sleeves meant to hold slides or small photographs (available at office supply stores). These ready-made sheets are perfect for collecting miniature mementos such as coins, bottle caps, paper scraps, ticket stubs, magnets, and the like.  Then, the spoils of several trips can be stowed away in a binder, full of tiny items and trinkets to turn into some of your craftiest memories.

Can’t afford a trip right now?  Be a tourist in the place you live.  Get out and see new things and collect items from your own city or the cities around you.  You can share them with others by making a card and keep some for yourself.  Shadowboxes are a great way to keep some of these things.  Odds are you won’t live in the same city for the rest of your life.  Hold onto some memories.

Motherhood is hard so we need help

EMILY’S BITES OF FUN:

An interview with Quina Aragon from the blog/podcast from Risen Motherhood:

Whether you’re the crafty mom who can beautify anything, the mom who is always coming up with fun new adventures, or the mom who feels caught in the doldrums of daily life  God’s word teaches that we’re all creative. We’re all image bearers of the Creator. In this episode, Emily and Laura interview Quina Aragon—a wife, mom, and artist—on creativity and the gospel. As God’s ambassadors, we’re called to cultivate the earth in order to proclaim his name. Whether we make a delicious meal, comb a child’s hair, or help paint watercolor masterpieces, our creativity fills our homes and communities with the knowledge of the glory of God.

autumn leaves are meant to be kissed

IT’S TIME TO BUY SOME CLASS GIFT CERTIFICATES FOR FRIENDS AND FAMILY!

EMILY’S BITES OF FUN:

My two-year old son has taken to picking up autumn leaves off the ground, kissing them, giving them to me, wanting me to kiss them and then he does a little dance afterwards.  It’s the cutest thing and could go on for hours if I let it.  The simplest things can bring such joy!

Find Joy in the Little Things – Emily

Holiday fun is around the corner!

it’s time to buy some class gift certificates for friends and family!

EMILY’S BITES OF FUN:

The Language of flowers: Blue flowers, for example, have many different meanings.                         In its dark, regal tones, blue can express trustworthiness, confidence, intelligence and unity, which is why it’s frequently the color of police uniforms, the blue “power suit” is an icon of the business world and why winners of competitions receive blue ribbons.  And yet, in its softer hues, blue can uplift the spirit of a sunny sky or soothing  ocean – perhaps explaining why people find themselves choosing blue flowers when they want to send a message of calming beauty, tranquility, and peace. Like the “forget-me-not!

Think about studying flowers, examining the intricate they have, take photographs of blossoms, and stop to smell the roses (literally), and add a beautiful arrangement or framed picture to your creative work space.
