Let’s Get Organized!

Emily’s Bites of Fun:

If your craft room is an explosion of all kinds of things, covered in paint, brushes and whatever, organizing it may seem impossible. Start now to sort and organize your craft room or space. Your future crafting days will be infinitely better and much more enjoyable!

    • ORGANIZE THE ROOM BY CRAFT TYPE

Keep needles and thread by the sewing machine. Put paints and paint brushes near the easel. Group together the things you need for different projects and keep them separated for easy retrieval.  This is such a help and if you remember to return things to their proper place,  your next project will go much easier.

    • CONTAIN ITEMS

After you’ve sorted all of your supplies by craft type, keep them contained. You’re going to want to start small, like grouping all of your thread by color or type within a container. Put each different type of thread variety in a bag, and then put all these bags of thread in a storage box. Use ziplock bags, small plastic containers or your used and cleaned yogurt cups.  Lot’s of ideas!

    • MAKE THE MOST OF THE ROOM YOU HAVE

Your craft room probably isn’t the biggest room in your house, but there are many of ways you can maximize your space by being creative.

Maybe a table that folds flat against the wall?  Or, wall shelves to store things up off the floor? (This makes a big deal for me having little ones) Vertical space can be your biggest asset. Use drawers and shelves to store things on top of each other.

The craft projects you are currently working on can take up a lot of room, so keep unused items and supplies out of the way.

    • KNOW YOUR INVENTORY

It’s always good to know what you have and what you need. Keep a master list of everything you have in your craft room or a photo on your mobile phone. This will prevent those frustrating situations when you have 15 rolls of tape, but not a single bottle of glue.

Once you have organized your craft room, maintain the organization by putting things back in their place when you are finished.  Again, be creative, take pictures and share them with others so we can all glean from your ideas.
